Volunteer with Girls On The Run

We rely on volunteers to assist with many different aspects of our organization. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved at a variety of different times and in many different ways. Take a look at the opportunities listed below to determine what’s the best fit for your talent and time.

Volunteer Coach

Becoming a coach is the most rewarding way to get involved with Girls on the Run. At each program location, two volunteer coaches work together to deliver the Girls on the Run curriculum, twice a week for 90 minutes to groups of 8-17 girls. You don't have to be a runner to be a coach - coaches simply must be passionate about the mission of Girls on the Run, committed to working with a group of girls throughout the ten week season (March – May) and able to bring energy and joy to each practice.

Girls on the Run strives to have our programming be consistent, providing the best possible experience for each girl. Our coaches are the most integral part of making that happen. We ask that you truly consider the requirements detailed in the volunteer coach job description ** prior to making the commitment to become a mentor to a team of girls and check back here in the upcoming months for our updated, 2017 volunteer coach application.

**Please note that our Coach Summit (designed to train, inspire and prepare our coaches for a successful season!) will be held this year on Saturday, Feb. 18th at Kensington Court in Ann Arbor. More details, along with registration, will be included on the coach application.

5k Event Committee

Our 5k event committee is a dedicated team of volunteers who help organize and lead groups of volunteers for our annual Girls on the Run 5k and Superhero 5k events.

In preparation for the Girls on the Run 5k, the committee meets 3-4 times in the evening (March - May) at the Women's Health Center at St. Joseph Mercy Health System's campus in Ypsilanti and participates in one service day before the event. Each 5k committee member has an area of the 5k they are responsible for setting up, leading volunteers and supporting 5k attendees.

The committee will also have the opportunity to assist with the planning of several new events for 2017!
