Spring 2012 Season

Volunteer role models lead 3rd through 5th grade girls through a ten-week program where they use a well researched and scientifically evaluated life skill's curriculum to support all aspects of girls' development - their physical, emotional, mental and social well-being. Lessons include fun running games and experiential activities that help girls learn to embrace healthy habits, make positive choices, express themselves and serve as leaders in our community. The program culminates in a non-competitive 5K event which gives the girls a chance to shine and an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. Girls complete the program with a stronger sense of identity, a greater acceptance of themselves, a healthier body image and an understanding of what it means to be part of a team.

The actual cost for a girl to participate in Girls on the Run is $150 however thanks to the generosity of our community and sponsors we are able to charge a reduced fee of $135. The fee includes a healthy snack at each session, curriculum handouts, a water bottle, t-shirt, 5k-entry fee, finisher's medal and an end of the season celebration.

The spring season begins the week of March 12th and will end the week of May 25th. Registration for the spring season will open January 22nd and close February 7th at midnight. We will reopen it February 8th at 12:01am for late registrants. Late registration will include an additional late fee of $15 per registrant.

The spring New Balance Girls on the Run 5k is May 20th, 2012 and takes place at Eastern Michigan University's Rynearson stadium. Participants and coaches are automatically registered. Families and community members are strongly encouraged to begin training and register to run/walk with our girls to show their support and model healthy choices.
