General Information:
The eight week program run two times a year: Fall (September to November) Spring (March to May) The program meets two times a week after school for 90 minutes. Coaches are expected to attend every session. There will be at least one coach and an assistant coach at each site. GOTRSEMI performs a background check on all coaches and assistant coaches.

Requirements:
Genuine interest in leading a healthy life. Commitment to the mission of GOTR. Reliable, honest and positive outlook on life. Interest in the issues facing young women today. Desire to get involved in a new nonprofit organization and help create public awareness.

Volunteer Job and Coaching Opportunities:

Head Coach:
Responsibilities and Volunteer Time Commitment
Attend Coaches Training (6 hour training session)
Become CPR and First Aid certified (3 hours)
Attend 1 mandatory coach’s meeting during the session (1.5 hours total)
Prepare for and supervise (16) ninety- minute lessons in a manner consistent with the GOTR of Southeastern Michigan philosophy and curricula; this includes attending practices two afternoons per week for the duration of the program (approximately 80 hours total including being present 15 minutes before and after practice)
Serve as a role model for the girls and encourage the girls at all times
Wait at the school following all practices until all girls have been picked up
Plan and coordinate the end of season celebration for the team
Distribute the program pre- and post-tests as directed
Lead the girls in the coordination of a community service project
Participate with the girls in the end of seasons 5K run/walk Celebration Event
Provide direction to assistant coaches and parent volunteers to ensure they are offering encouragement, participation in games and work-outs, and being cheerleaders for the team

Assistant Coach:

The Assistant Coach is a volunteer position that assists the Head Coach(es) at a Girls on the Run program site. The position entails approximately 1.5 - 3 hours per week for 8 weeks. Assistant Coaches can choose to attend both program sessions per week OR commit to only one day a week. We ask each Assistant Coach to determine which schedule works best for them and to maintain that schedule throughout the program for consistency on behalf of the girls. While the Assistant Coach is not responsible for facilitation the Girls on the Run curriculum, they are there to support the Head Coach and program participants in many ways.
This volunteer position may be used as a service learning project/high school community service credit project, internship, or other college/high school credit project upon agreement of the school and Director.

Site Liaison:
The Site Liaison is a volunteer position that has the following responsibilities:
• Complete site application; gain signature of principal (or director of community agency) in support of hosting GOTR
• Secure bi-weekly practice space for GOTR for 1 1/2 hours, two days per week for each team – INDOOR AND OUTDOOR
• Identify storage space for GOTR supplies (snacks, shoes, folders, etc.)
• Distribute registration materials to 3rd through 5tgh grade girls
• Collect registrations and review for accuracy; follow-up with families if necessary.
• Assist with participation data entry when possible
• If multiple teams in the site assign girls to teams and provide GOTR staff with team rosters
• Meet with coaches at least one time prior to the start of the season
• Provide occasional feed back to GOTR organization
• Maintain regular communication with coach regarding program and facility
• Identify language barriers or special needs, notify coordinator when assistance is needed
• Assist in the recruitment of coaches for the site (two per team)
• Attend at least one on-site GOTR practice
• Assist coaches in identifying and reserving space for end of season banquet
• Must have e-mail
• *if not on-site, please designate a day-2-day contact (i.e. a secretary) K Run/Walk
